Petition to Halt Long Island’s Outrageous Gas Price Surge

Already among America’s most taxed citizens, Long Island’s high cost of living threatens the long-term viability of our communities.
Lee Zeldin has a plan to help alleviate some of this burden. Recognizing that gasoline tax relief is just a stop-gap measure as America seeks alternative energy sources to fuel the 21st Century, Zeldin thinks enough is enough.
What follows are the initial steps in his plan to attack rising fuel costs, alleviate dependency on foreign oil and modernize our energy resources:

Implement a federal, state and county moratorium on gasoline tax IMMEDIATELY and keep it in place until Congress takes the needed steps to address this crisis. This would result in savings over $.60/gallon;
Pay for the loss of federal revenue caused by the gas tax moratorium by enacting a one-year moratorium on federal earmarks;
Investigate improper speculation that contributes to surging prices;
Enable responsible oil exploration on Alaska’s North Slope and elsewhere domestically;
Encourage the Iraqi government to utilize their $80 billion dollar oil surplus on costs to maintain their country that are being paid for with American tax dollars; and
Continue American investment and research funding in developing alternative energy sources using renewable resources like wind and solar power.
